The Virginia Tech Athletics Department, in coordination with the Blacksburg Transit bus system, has established a shuttle service to run for Sunday's first-round NCAA women's basketball games.
The system will consist of four buses running along two routes at five-minute intervals. Starting at Cassell Coliseum, all four buses will proceed to Perry Street and make stops at the parking lots next to Prices Fork Rd. The buses will then travel around the Duck Pond. Two of the buses will turn left at Washington Street and stop in front of the Litton-Reeves lot before arriving back at Cassell. The other two buses will continue past Washington Street to the parking lot behind Lane Stadium for their second stop, before returning to Cassell.
The regular Blacksburg Transit service will also be running during this time, so fans should look for the marquee above the bus windshield to clearly identify those shuttles servicing the NCAA Tournament.
Buses will begin running at 10:30 a.m. and will run continuously until 90 minutes after the conclusion of the second game.
This Sunday's shuttle service will essentially be a test run for what the athletics department and the Blacksburg Transit would like to put in place for Tech's men's and women's ACC basketball games next season. The plan is to have six buses operating for those games, also running from 90 minutes prior to tip-off until 90 minutes after the conclusion of the game.
There will be no charge for the shuttles.
