Hokies Fall at Boston College
Tech held to season-low 47 points

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The only thing colder than the weather outside the Silvio O. Conte Forum Sunday afternoon was Virginia Techs shooting in the Hokies 65-47 loss to Boston College. The loss snapped a four-game Tech winning streak and a two-game skid for the Eagles.
Tech (17-6, 8-4) was held to a season-low 47 points and shot only 35.4 percent from the field while committing 21 turnovers. The Eagles converted the Hokie miscues into 24 points.
Boston College (16-6, 8-3), ranked 23rd in the USA Today/ESPN/WBCA poll and No. 25 by the Associated Press, used a big run at the end of the first half and into the second frame to seal the victory. After trailing by as many as nine points early in the contest, Tech closed to within 28-24 on two Dawn Chriss (Fr., Hillcrest Heights, Md.) free throws with 2:37 remaining in the first half. Maureen Leahy hit two baskets to give BC a 32-24 halftime advantage.
The second half opened with an Eagle bucket but Tech responded with a three-pointer from Emily Lipton (Sr., Crofton, Md.) to cut the lead to 34-27. Lipton's trey was to be the Hokies last points over the next 9:26 as BC iced the game wigh a 15-0 run. During the drought, Tech was 0-of-7 from the field and committed seven turnovers.
Chrystal Starling (Sr., Syracuse, N.Y.) led Tech with 14 points followed by Carrie Mason (Fr., Seneca, Pa.) with 12 points. Tech's Ieva Kublina (Jr., Riga, Latvia) was held to a season-low six points and the Hokies' other inside threat, Erin Gibson (So., Galax, Va.), was limited to only two points.
Becky Gottstein led BC with 22 points followed by Jesslyn Deveny's 20-point effort.
Tech will return to action on Sat., Feb. 22 when the Hokies host No. 19/20 Villanova in a 2 p.m. contest. Tech is 12-0 this season in Cassell Coliseum.
