Hokies fall to #3 Connecticut
Huskies connect on school-record 14 treys in win

BLACKSBURG, VA. (2-07-01) -- The third-ranked Connecticut Huskies placed six players in double figures and hit a school-record 14 three-pointers in a 90-38 victory over Virginia Tech. The game was played before 7,402 which was the sixth largest home crowd for a women's basketball game.
Connecticut (19-2, 9-1) jumped out to a 24-4 lead in the first eight minutes and were never threatened. The Huskies shot 57.7 percent from the field and were 14-28 from behind the arc. Tech struggled from field shooting only 23.6 percent for the game and the Hokies were 0-15 on three-pointers.
Virginia Tech (15-6, 6-4) was led in scoring by Tere Williams with 14 points while Sarah Hicks and Chrystal Starling pulled down six rebounds each. The 38 points was a season-low for the Hokies and the 90 points by the Huskies was the most scored by a Tech opponent this season.
Connecticut was led by Sue Bird with 17 points followed by Diana Taurasi and Shea Ralph with 13 each, Asjha Jones with 12, Kennitra Johnson's 11 points and Kelly Schumacher with 10 points.
Virginia Tech will return to action on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum when the Hokies host the Pittsburgh Panthers.
