Tech Announces Final Spring Signee
Finnerty becomes sixth player to ink with Hokies
May 1, 2002

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech Women's Basketball Coach Bonnie Henrickson has announced the signing of Megan Finnerty to a national letter of intent for the 2002-2003 academic year. Finnerty is the second spring signee and sixth of the year.

Finnerty, a 6-3 center from Atlanta, Ga., averaged 12.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and shot 45 percent from the field for coach Ron Sattele at Pius X High School. She led her team to a 27-4 record and to the final eight of the Georgia Class 4A playoffs. Finnerty was named to the Georgia All-State and All-Region teams and was selected to play in the Georgia All-State Senior Game. She was also named an AAU All-American last summer and was the state champion in the shot put.

"We are excited to add Megan Finnerty to this year's recruiting class," said Henrickson. "She is very athletic, shoots the ball well and attacks the basket."

Finnerty joins 6-3 center Brandy Fowler from Cary, N.C., who signed with Tech last week and 6-1 guard Dawn Chriss from Hillcrest, Md., 6-1 forward Kerri Gardin from Morganton, N.C., 6-0 guard Maggie Grisser from Springfield, Pa., and 5-7 point guard Carrie Mason from Seneca, Pa. who inked with the Hokies during the fall signing period.

"Megan brings a different dimension to our team on both ends of the floor with her various skills and she also is a good student," added Henrickson.

Virginia Tech finished the 2001-02 season with a 21-11 record and advanced to the WNIT semifinals marking the fifth consecutive 20-win season and fifth-straight postseason appearance for the program.
