Hokies Drop 80-59 Decision At Clemson
Tech turnovers prove costly in loss

CLEMSON, S.C. - Virginia Tech turnovers and hot shooting by the opposition proved to be the difference in Clemson's 80-59 victory over the Hokies Monday night.

Clemson (7-2) forced Tech into a season-high 30 turnovers and limited the Hokies to only 29.2 percent shooting in the first half to build a 42-23 halftime advantage. The Tigers, who shot 49.2 percent for the game, used an 11-0 run in the first half to break open a close game and cruise to the victory.

Virginia Tech (6-3) was led by Tere Williams with 14 points followed by Amy Wetzel with 12 points and Chrystal Starling with 10. Clemson placed six players in double figures led by Erin Batth's 13 points followed by Nuria Forns, Chrissy Floyd, and Margie Slosser with 12 points each. Marci Glenney and Krystal Scott added 11 points each for the Tigers.

Tech managed to improve its shooting dramatically in the second half shooting 56.5 percent (13-23) but the Tigers continued their torrid shooting hitting 14-27 (51.9%) in the second stanza to squelch any comeback efforts by the Hokies. Clemson also shot well from behind the arc connecting on 6-12 treys.

The 80 points were the most allowed by the Hokies this season. Tech also struggled from the free throw line connecting on a season-low 64.0 percent (16-25).

Virginia Tech stays on the road and plays at Old Dominion Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Norfolk, Va. The game will be televised nationally by Home Team Sports.
