Tech Women's Basketball Cruises Past UNC Asheville
Tere Williams Scores 19 Points in Blowout

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team defeated UNC Asheville, 85-47, Thursday night in Blacksburg, Va.

Tere Williams scored the first two-points of the game and neither Williams nor the rest of the Hokies ever looked back. Williams hit 8-of-12 shots from the field and led all scorers with 19 points along with grabbing six rebounds. Ieva Kublina came off the bench to play 28-minutes, scoring 16 points to go along with her five boards and two blocked shots. Both Sarah Hicks and Nicole Jones scored 10 points in the victory.

Jessica Guarneri had another good outing for the Bulldogs. She was second on the team in scoring with 12 points and led the team in total rebounds with eight. Izrawit Medhanie was the top scorer for UNC Asheville with 13 points.

The Hokies shot an impressive 57.1% from the field, while forcing the Bulldogs into a 31.5% shooting performance and 26 turnovers. Tech was 3-of-5 from three-point range, while the Bulldogs only managed to knock down 3-of-14 attempts. Tech also out-rebounded UNC Asheville, 41-to-28.

The Hokies (8-2) will be back in action tomorrow when they host the Maine Lady Black Bears in the championship game of the Lady Luck Classic at 7:30. Maine defeated Marshall in the opening game of the tournament, 79-58. Marshall and UNC Asheville (2-8) will play in the consolation game tomorrow at 5:30.
