Women's Basketball signs Five
Hokies announce new additions to 2006-07 squad

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's basketball program has announced the signing of five student-athletes to a national letters of intent for the 2006-2007 academic year. Lindsay Biggs, Utahya Drye, Shani Grey, Lakeisha Logan, and Vionca Murray will be freshmen members of next year's team.
"We are extremely excited to announce the signing of the Hokies' Fab Five," said Virginia Tech head coach Beth Dunkenberger. "Each member of this class features a different specialty on the court that they will bring to our program. This group has the potential to make us contenders for an ACC Championship."
Biggs, a 5-11 point-guard from Midlothian, Va., averaged 18.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 6.0 assists during her junior season for coach Jerry Gibbs at Manchester H.S. She led her team to a 25-5 record and was a second-team all-state selection. Additionally, Biggs was named first-team all-district, all-region, and all-metro while leading the district in scoring and finished her junior season with 1,126 career points. Biggs also was named to the district and region all-academic teams. Biggs selected the Hokies over Boston College and Wake Forest.
Drye, a 6-1 wing from Durham, N.C., averaged 15 points and eight rebounds a game for coach Pam Adams at Northern Durham H.S. She was named first-team all-state by NCpreps.com and to the Associated Press second team while leading her team to the state championship game.
Grey, a 5-8 guard from Windsor, Conn., averaged 15.5 points and 8.0 rebounds for Vin Cian Farani at Windsor H.S.. She was named first-team all-state by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association as well as to the Hartford Courant and New Haven Register all-state first teams. Grey has scored over 1,000 career points and finished sixth this summer in the 200 meter dash at the 60th New England Interscholastic Outdoor Track Championships in Sacco, Maine. Grey chose the Hokies over Miami.
Logan, a 5-8 point-guard from Scarboro, W.Va., averaged 28 points and nine rebounds for coach Jerry Epperly at Oak Hill Academy. She was an all-state selection and led her team to its first-ever state tournament. Logan averaged 10 points and two rebounds for the West Virginia Tornados at the 2005 Nike National Championships. Logan chose the Hokies over Pittsburgh and West Virginia.
Murray, a 6-1 power forward from Rosedale, N.Y., averaged 19 points and eight rebounds for coach Mike Eisenberg at Francis Lewis H.S. She was an Adidas 2004 All-American Camp Underclass All-star and was ranked as the 18th best power forward this summer by the All Star Girls Report. Murray had 19 points and 15 rebounds in the New York City All-stars 83-70 win over the Long Island All-Stars on Oct. 23 at the annual Metro Classic. Murray selected Virginia Tech over Penn State and Temple.
Virginia Tech finished the 2004-05 season with a 17-12 record and advanced to the NCAA First Round, marking the eighth-straight postseason appearance and third consecutive NCAA bid for the program. Tech defeated Athletes in Action, 85-62, Sunday in its only exhibition game. The Hokies open the regular season Nov. 20 at 2 p.m., against James Madison in Cassell Coliseum.
