July 6, 2006
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Virginia Tech placed two players on the 2006 All-ACC Academic Women's Basketball team. Senior guard Carrie Mason and freshman guard Laura Haskins were selected for excellence in the classroom. Fifteen student-athletes were recognized following their academic accomplishments, as announced by Commissioner John D. Swofford.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
Five players, in addition to All-ACC second-team member Shay Doron or Maryland, are repeaters from previous league all-academic teams. Duke senior guard Jessica Foley and Florida State senior guard Ganiyat Adeduntan both picked up their third All-ACC academic team accolades. Doron was joined on the team by teammate Chrystal Langhorne.
Other repeaters include Florida State's Holly Johnson, Miami's Tatjana Marincic and Carrie Mason of Virginia Tech. The three senior guards recorded their second All-ACC academic team award.
Senior forward and All-ACC second-team member Brooke Queenan and junior guard Sarah Marshall represent Boston College on this year's academic team. Marshall averaged 5.7 points and 3.3 rebounds, while Queenan finished the 2006 season ninth on the Eagles' career rebound list with 560.
Rounding out the All-League academic selections are Clemson senior Amanda Frist, FSU junior Alicia Gladden and senior LaQuinta Neely, North Carolina senior Jessica Sell and the lone freshman Laura Haskins of Virginia Tech.
