Christmas store night set for Saturday
November 30, 2006
BLACKSBURG, Va.-The Virginia Tech women's basketball team and WDBJ 7 will host the Montgomery County Christmas Store Night Saturday, December 2nd, at 7pm, when the Hokies take on the Charlotte 49ers in Cassell Coliseum.
All fans are encouraged to donate a new unwrapped toy to the Christmas Store; in exchange they will receive a coupon good for free admission to any remaining regular season women's basketball game. The Hokies are hoping to fill the shelves of the Christmas Store so that the toys can be distributed to area children who are less fortunate.
The store was founded with the idea that qualified people could choose, with no exchange of money, their own Christmas items to suit their family needs. The store's initial goal was to assist low-income families of Montgomery County in the most efficient and dignified manner. To be qualified, recipients must be permanent residents of Montgomery County and they must meet all of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
With this promotion, the Virginia Tech women's basketball team has helped to collect over 5,000 new toys for needy families in Montgomery County. Anyone who would like to contribute can simply bring an unwrapped new toy to the December 2nd game. Not only will you aid area children who are less fortunate, you will also help the Hokies battle Charlotte in a non-conference match-up.
Tickets to the game are available at 1-800 VA TECH 4. Adult tickets are $8, children under 18 are $3.
