Tech rolls past Generals in exhibition game, 93-12

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s basketball team rolled to the 93-12 win over Washington & Lee on Monday night in an exhibition game at Cassell Coliseum.

All 11 Hokies that saw time in the game got on the board with Vanessa Panousis leading the way with 14 points in the game. Freshman Rachel Camp tossed in 13 points while Samantha Hill and Dominique Powell posted 11 points each.

Camp also grabbed eight rebounds, handed out five assists and picked up three steals. Powel Pulled down eight rebounds as well and recorded a pair of blocks. Tara Nahodil and Hannah Young each had three blocks for the defense.

The Generals kept it close in the opening eight minutes, trailing by just seven (12-5) with 12:35 on the clock. Tech opened it up, going on a 40-2 run that spanned the next 11 minutes. Washington & Lee broke its drought in the final minutes of the half, scoring three in the last two minutes.

Panousis went 5-of-6 from the field, including 4-of-5 from outside the arc in the opening half to lead all scorers with 14 as the Hokies held the 54-10 lead at the break.

Coming out of the break, the Hokies continued to dominate, allowing the Generals just two points in the second period. Tech outscored Washington & Lee 39-2.

The Hokies connected on 50 percent from the field, hitting 36-of-72 from the field and 10-of-28 from outside the arc. Virginia Tech grabbed 53 rebounds to the Generals’ 30.

Jackie Clifford tallied four points for the visiting team.

Virginia Tech opens the regular season on Friday, traveling to George Mason for a 5 p.m. game at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia.
