Emily Mahar advances to match play at US Girl's Junior

2017 US Girl's Junior Championship

Emily Mahar posted a two-round total of 9-over 151 and tied for 61st place in stroke play at the 2017 US Girl’s Junior Championship on Tuesday afternoon. The six-day USGA event is being played at the par 71, 6,275-yard Boone Valley Golf Club in Augusta, Missouri.

Mahar, an incoming freshman from Phoenix, Arizona and Brisbane, Australia, will play Paphangkorn Tavatanakit of Thailand and UCLA in the Round of 64. Their match will begin at 10:24 a.m. CT on Wednesday morning. Mahar is the 63rd seed in match play and Tavatanakit is the second seed. The winner will advance to the Round of 32 on Thursday to play the winner of the Irene Kim vs. Kelly Su match.

The top 64 players advanced to match play out of the field of 156 competitors. Mahar has already qualified to compete in next month’s US Women’s Amateur Championship in Chula Vista, California.
