Chris Penny became one of the great Cinderella stories of the 2014 NCAA Championships as he advanced to the semifinals of the 197-pound class as the No. 14 seed. After winning his opener, he knocked off third-seeded Mike McIntosh of Penn State in the second round and then took down 10th-seeded Nathan Burak of Iowa to reach the semis. After falling in the semifinals, he dropped down to the wrestlebacks and eventually finished sixth. He concluded his season with a record of 28-13.
