Just minutes after teammate Devin Carter earned All-America honors in 2012, Pete Yates became Virginia Tech's ninth All-American in wrestling when he knocked off second-seeded Shane Onufer of Wyoming 10-3 to secure top-eight status. Seeded sixth, the Conyers, Ga., native lost his first match of the tournament and went on a roll, winning his next five and finished fifth at the 2012 NCAA Championships at 165 pounds in in St. Louis, Mo. His senior season, he became Tech's first semifinalist since 1959 and finished fourth at 165 pounds in Des Moines, Iowa, becoming Tech's second two-time All-American and finished his career with 131 victories and two ACC titles.
