Hokies Do Well At Carolina Dewalt Open
Four wrestlers capture first place.

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech men's wrestling team competed at the Carolina Dewalt Open this weekend.

Tech had nine grapplers to finish in the top six of their respective weight classes.

At the 125 pound weight class, Mike Mercado (Virginia Beach, Va.) captured fourth place.

Unattached Mike Akers (Poquoson, Va.) captured first place in the 133 pound weight class when Brad Byers (UNC) took a medical forfeit.

Sean Gray (Flemington, N.J.) captured first place in the 141 pound weight class when he defeated LaMotta (UNC), 6-5.

Andrew Schuler (Lynchburg, Va.) took third place in the 149 pound weight class.

Jeff Cies (Oak Ridge, N.J.) captured the fifth place spot in the 157 pound weight class.

Chris Martin (Norfolk, Va.) captured first place in the 165 pound weight class.

Scott Justus (Grundy, Va.) captured first place in the 184 pound weight class when he defeated Nick Richmond (UNC), 9-6.

Christian Basnight (Chesapeake, Va.) took second place in the 197 pound weight class.

Unattached Ben Fisher (Woodbridge, Va.) captured sixth place at the heavyweight class.
