November 8, 2001
BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech wrestling team will take to the road for its season opener, traveling to Edinboro to face the defending Eastern Wrestling League champions Sunday afternoon.
The young Hokie squad is led by two-time All-American Sean Gray, who will once again wrestle at 141 pounds. Scott Justus, who was an honorable mention All-American a year ago, and Gray are the only wrestlers on the roster to record a collegiate victory at Tech. Two transfers recorded wins last year at another school.
The No. 11 Fighting Scots feature defending national champion Josh Koscheck, who was undefeated last season at 174 pounds. Freshman Tomas Ovalle will draw this assignment in his first collegiate match.
In all, there will be eight new faces in the Tech lineup, possibly including up to four transfers. As many as five freshmen could wrestle, as well.
