Rosen wins Davidson Open

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Freshman wrestler Matt Rosen led a strong contingent of Hokies who participated in the first Davidson Open Saturday. Rosen, from Chesapeake, Va., took the title at 133 pounds to highlight the day.

Rosen, who went 3-0 on the day, opened with a victory over Jay Coman of NC State. He then beat Chris Francis of Anderson before downing Rob Tate of Gardner-Webb in the championship match. Scores from individual bouts were not made available as of Saturday night.

At 141 pounds, freshman Andre Johnson went 2-1, falling in the title match to take second place. At 157 pounds, Derek Gallagher went 1-2 in taking fourth place. Eric Hillgartner lost his lone match.

At 165 pounds, Robert Buck fell in the title match to take second place while Eddie Baughan lost in the consolation semifinals.

At 184, Jimmy Young lost his lone match while Zack Zitsos went 0-2. At 197 pounds, Kevin O'Connor wrestled unattached and took third place while Tim Miller lost in the consolation semifinals.

Finally, at the heavyweight division, freshman Jim Powers won his first two bouts, but fell in the championship to take second place.
