    Brackets, seeds announced for NCAA Wrestling Championships

    BLACKSBURG - The brackets and seeds, along with the list of competitors, were released Wednesday evening for next week’s NCAA Wrestling Championships, to be held March 15-17 at St. Louis’ Scottrade Center. Devin Carter and Pete Yates grabbed national seeds while Erik Spjut was awarded one of the wildcard bids at 125 pounds.

    In all, Tech will send six competitors to the event. Along with Carter, Yates and Spjut, Chris Moon, Nick Brascetta and Zach Neibert will represent the Hokies.

    Carter grabbed the No. 6 seed at 133 pounds while Yates is the No. 6 seed at 165 pounds.

    Below are the initial matchups for all six competitors, barring no changes between now and next week.

    125: Erik Spjut
    First Round: vs. #6 seed Frank Perelli (Cornell)
    Second match: vs. winner/loser of #11 Matthew Snyder (VA)/Johnni DiJulius (Ohio St.)

    133: #6 seed Devin Carter
    First Round: vs. Nathan McCormick (Missouri)
    Second match: vs. winner/loser of [#11 Steven Keith (Harvard)/Geoffrey Alexander (MD)]/Jordan Keller (Oklahoma)

    141: Zach Neibert
    First Round: vs. #10 seed Jake Sueflohn (Nebraska)
    Second match: vs. winner/loser of #7 Nick Nelson (VA)/Mike Kessler (Appalachian St.)

    149: Nick Brascetta
    First Round: vs. #9 seed David Hobat (Edinboro)
    Second match: vs. winner/loser of #8 Eric Grajales (Michigan)/Stephen Robertson (Penn)

    165: #6 seed Pete Yates
    First Round: vs. Dallas Bailey (Oklahoma St.)
    Second match: vs. winner/loser of #11 Brandon Hatchett (Lehigh)/James Brundage (Rider)

    174: Chris Moon

    First Round: vs. #2 seed ChrisPerry (Oklahoma St.)
    Second match: vs. winner/loser of Mike Dessino (Bloomsburg)/Curran Jacobs (MSU)
