Carter set for prestigious NWCA All-Star Classic
Junior will take on top-ranked Ramos of Iowa Saturday night in Fairfax

BLACKSBURG - Devin Carter of the Virginia Tech wrestling team will compete against top-ranked Tony Ramos of Iowa Saturday night in the NWCA All-Star Classic presented by the United States Marine Corps at the Patriot Center on the campus of George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. Carter, coming off a redshirt year, is ranked third at his new weight class of 141 pounds while Ramos is No. 1 at 133 pounds. The two will wrestle the “out-of-weight” match at 141 pounds.

The bout is an exhibition match so the result does not count toward either wrestler’s 2013-14 or career ledgers.

“Being chosen to wrestle in this event is an honor and a credit to ALL who will compete this Friday night,” head coach Kevin Dresser said. “This is the BEST of the BEST! In Devin’s match up, wrestling a tough, two-time All American from Iowa will help him get ready for the season. The match has no significance in national rankings since Ramos is a 133-pounder and Carter is a 141-pounder, however, bragging rights are on the line. This match up pits two great competitors against one another. The fur will fly on Saturday night in the Patriot Center. To add some drama, this match will be the second-to-last match of the night! It should be lots of fun!”

The All-Star Classic will feature many of the nation’s top Division I wrestlers who will participate in a dual meet format. FloWrestling will be providing the live pay webcast for the event. Fox College Sport will be broadcasting the event via two-week tape delay (note: schedule will be announced following the event).

The doors to the Patriot Center open at 5:45 p.m. Saturday and the exhibition matches begin at 6:45 p.m. The main event begins at 7:15 p.m. with the order yet to be announced.
