    January 30, 2004

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech women's soccer player Emily Barnhart (Sr., Columbus, Ohio) has been named all-region by Soccer Buzz Magazine. Barnhart, who wrapped up her four-year career in 2003, was listed as a member of the third-team all-Mid Atlantic Region team.

Barnhart concluded a prolific career last season by leading the Hokies with nine goals. She also added an assist to rank second on the team with 19 points. She had one multi-goal game. Barnhart finished the year as the Hokies' career leader in goals (24), assists (13), points (61) and shots (205). In 2003, she helped Virginia Tech to a 9-9 record, tying the school record for wins.

Barnhart is the second women's soccer player in the 11-year history of the program to be named all-region by an outside organization. She joins goalkeeper Hope Handley, who earned the accolade in 1995.

She was one of nine BIG EAST players named all-Mid Atlantic Region. Soccer Buzz's National Player of the Year went to North Carolina's Lindsay Tarpley.
