BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech women's soccer coach Sam Okpodu
recently announced the signing of three new players for the upcoming
2002 season. Andrea Angelos, Ashley Stoutland and Erin Zlomek each
signed national letters of intent and will enroll at Tech for the
2002-03 school year. All three players are scheduled to receive
grants-in aid.
Angelos is currently attending West Chester East High School in
Thornton, Pa. She has excelled at the forward position as a four-year
varsity starter and has been a potent offensive weapon for coach
Steve Gillmor. She led the team in scoring all four years she
started. Each year she was named captain of the squad and best
offensive player. Angelos also plays for F.C. Delco Destroyers club
team, which were Pennsylvania State Cup Finalists in 2001, and the
Nether Providence Nightmare Select U-17 team.
Stoutland has been successful as both a scorer and defender. She
resides in Avondale, Pa., and attends Kennett High School in Kennett
Square, Pa. In 1998, she was a varsity starter at the midfield and
forward positions and went on to score 15 goals and 18 assists. The
1999 season brought more success Stoutland's way as she produced nine
goals and 14 assists from her starting role as a midfielder and
defender. She improved her numbers in 2000, charting 14 goals and 16
assists from the same positions. Her performance on the field led to
her being named to all-league, all-area, all-regional and
all-conference teams. On top of being named to the Eastern
Pennsylvania All-Star Team, Stoutland was a Pennsylvania Area Girls
Soccer Super 60 (PAGS) participant. Stoutland was also a member of
the F.C. Delco club team.
Zlomek plays the forward and midfield positions for Pottsgrove High
School and currently resides in Pottotown, Pa. She is a four-year
starter at the varsity level and was the team captain this past year.
She was the team's top scorer in 2001 and was the team leader in
assists. Zlomek was also tops in scoring during the 2000 season and
was second in 1999. Her performance led to a first team
all-conference spot in 2001 and honorable mention in 2000 and an
appearance on the PAGS Super 60 team. She also plays for F.C. Delco.
