Hokies Drop Exhibition Match At Wake Forest
Virginia Tech warms up for the regular season
August 23, 2003 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Virginia Tech women's soccer team found the going a little rough on Saturday night at Wake Forest, dropping a 3-0 match in the team's lone exhibition action of the 2003 preseason. Wake Forest sophomore Sarah Kozey scored goals in the 14th and 66th minutes and assisted on another as the Deacons pulled away from Virginia Tech in the second half with two goals. The Deacons, who climbed as high as sixth nationally in the polls in 2002, out shot the Hokies 15-7. Virginia Tech did manage more saves than the hosts did as the Hokies notched five saves to the Deacons' three. The Hokies will look to start the regular season off on a positive note next Saturday, Aug. 30, as they travel to George Mason for a 7 p.m. in-state match. First-year head coach Kelly Cagle and the rest of the team will then return home to inaugurate the Hokies' new stadium with a 7 p.m. match against American University on Sept. 2.
