BLACKSBURG, Va. - In its only scheduled preseason exhibition match of the season, the Virginia Tech women's soccer team cruised to a decisive 5-1 victory over George Mason on Saturday, at Moseley Field.

Senior co-captain Kathy Holdsworth (Sarasota, Fla.) and freshman Andrea Angelos (Thornton, Pa.) led the Hokies' attack with a goal and an assist each. Sophomore goalkeeper Natasha Dirda (McKees Rocks, Pa.) made three saves in her first game as a Hokie, playing in place of the injured Katie Hancock (Stockton, Md.).

"I thought we did a good job controlling the midfield," interim head coach Jerry Cheynet stated. "I was really impressed with the play of our young players late in the game. We did a good job finishing on the offensive end. They worked hard for the entire game."

Amy Rappaport (Columbia, Md.), Nina Figueroa (Vienna, Va.) and Ryan Johnson (Eagleville, Pa.) accounted for the other Hokie goals.

Tech will return to the practice field next week and continue to prepare for its season opener on Sunday, Sept. 1, when the Hokies will travel to Indiana to challenge No. 7-ranked Notre Dame.
