    Flyers Score Late Goal to Defeat Hokies
    Stinson scores eighth goal in loss

    BLACKSUBRG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's soccer team faced its toughest challenge of the season on Sept. 10 evening when it took on the Dayton Flyers. Dayton pulled off a 2-1 come from behind victory over the Hokies. The Flyers improve to 4-1 while Tech falls to 4-1.

    In the opening half, freshman Ashley Stinson recorded her eighth goal of the season off an assist from Erin Moore to give the Hokies a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute of action.

    Dayton rallied back to tie the game just before halftime when Courtney Sirmans blasted a shot past Mallory Soldner after receiving a pass from Stacey Palumbo for a 1-1 tie at the break.

    The Flyers got the game-winning goal in the 68th minute when Palumbo netted a goal off a pass from Reba Sedlacek. Katie Lowstuter was also credited with an assist on the play.

    For the game, Dayton outshot the Hokies 21 to 14, including 10 to six in the second half. The Flyers also recorded seven corner kicks to three for Tech.

    Stacy DeLuca tallied five saves for Dayton while Mallory Soldner had seven saves for the Hokies.

    On Sept. 12, Tech faces Ohio State in a 2 p.m. contest before returning home on Friday, September 17, when the Hokies face the College of Charleston at 7:30 p.m. in the Virginia Tech Tournament.
