    September 12, 2001

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Due to the national tragedies that occurred on Tuesday, Virginia Tech has announced that it has postponed all athletic events through Sunday, Sept. 16.

The BIG EAST Conference has announced that all conference events are postponed through Sunday and Virginia Tech will follow the league's decision and will not participate in any athletic events. Virginia Tech will attempt to reschedule all postponed events.

The Virginia Tech football team is not scheduled to play this weekend, but the junior varsity team's Friday home game against Fork Union Military Academy has been postponed. When the Hokies return to action on Sept. 22 at Rutgers, the team and all teams in the BIG EAST Conference will wear the American flag on their helmets, as a sign of unity.

The Hokies' women's soccer match at Liberty and volleyball match at Radford, both scheduled for Wednesday evening, are the first two events affected by the postponements. No make-up dates have been determined.
