Buckeyes Net Four Goals in Win Over Tech
Hokies fall to Ohio State 4-1

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Ohio State used two first half goals and a stifling defense to limit Virginia Tech to five shots on goal in a 4-1 win for the Buckeyes Sunday afternoon in finale of the Ohio State Tournament. Ohio State and the Hokies are both 4-2 on the season.

In the 20th minute of action, Danielle Dietrich recorded her fifth goal of the season when she headed a shot past Mallory Soldner for a 1-0 lead. Lisa Grubb and Colleen Hoban were both credited with an assist on the play.

With just under three minutes remaining before halftime, the Buckeyes' Lara Dickenmann blasted a shot just outside the six-yard box on the right side of the field for a 2-0 advantage. Dickenmann received the pass from Keiana Mitchell.

Two minutes into the second half, Danielle Dietrich played a ball to Grubb, who promptly put it in the back of the net to extend the lead to 3-0 for the home team.

At the 78:24 plateau, Tech's Ashley Stinson put the Hokies on the board when Ryan Johnson found her just inside the six-yard box on the right side of the field to cut the lead to 3-1. The goal was Stinson's ninth on the season.

Ohio State added an insurance goal at the 83:06 mark of play as Jackie Lafond scored of an Elizabeth Mumley pass.

For the game, Tech's Mallory Soldner tallied seven saves as the Buckeyes recorded 11 shots on goal. Ohio State totaled 19 shots in the contest to 14 for the Hokies.

The Buckeyes had three corner kicks to two for Tech. Both teams were credited with six fouls in the contest.

The Hokies return home on Friday, September 17 as they face the College of Charleston at 7:30 p.m. in the second game of the Virginia Tech Tournament. Howard and Liberty open the tournament at 5 p.m. in the Virginia Tech Soccer Stadium.
