Soldner Named Goalkeeper Of The Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Virginia Tech freshman goalkeeper Mallory Soldner (Lanesville, Ind.) was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday. She is the second Hokie to earn one of the league's weekly awards. Senior Jessica Myers was named co-Offensive Player of the Week last Monday.

Soldner recorded her second career solo shutout last Thursday against James Madison and made four saves in that match. She ran her consecutive scoreless minutes' streak to 322 with the shutout as the Hokies beat the Dukes 3-0.

Soldner then made a career high 10 saves as the Hokies nearly upset Villanova on Sunday before losing 2-1. For the week, Soldner averaged 7.0 saves per match and sported a 1.00 goals against average. Soldner's goals against average stands at 1.42 for the season, and she has tallied 35 saves in 508 minutes.

Soldner and the Hokies travel to Philadelphia, Pa., on Sept. 19 for a 4 p.m. match at LaSalle.
