September 17, 2000

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Virginia Tech women's soccer team fell to Missouri, 2-1, in the opening match of the Wake Forest Invitational.

The Hokies would strike first in the match when mid-fielder Kathy Holdsworth (Virginia Beach, Va.) received a Jessica Myers (Richmond, Va.) pass and knocked in a shot from 16-yards out. The goal came at the 14:01 mark in the match.

The match would remain 1-0 in the Hokies favor until the 47:12 mark in the second half when the Tech defense accidentally redirected Missouri's Steph Brennan's shot into their own net.

Missouri broke the 1-1 tie in the 56th minute of play. Amy Timmremann would collect a rebound off Hokie goaltender Katie Hancock's (Stockton, Md.) save and redirect it in to give the Tigers the victory.

Tech goalkeeper Hancock played all 90-minutes in goal for the Hokies and collected seven save.

Tech totaled 18 shots, four corners and seven saves. Missouri tallied 17 shots, eight corners and 10 saves.

The loss leaves the Hokies with a 3-6 record on the year. Tech will be back in action Sunday when it plays Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C.
