Women's Soccer Falls to Wake Forest
    Hokies Fall Victim to Late Goal Scoring

    Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Virginia Tech women's soccer team fell to Wake Forest, 5-1, Sunday.

    Stacy Roeck got Wake Forest on the board at the 18:54 mark when she scored on a pass from Katherine Winstead. Roeck shot the ball into the lower left corner of the net past Hokie goalkeeper Katie Hancock (Stockton, Md.).

    Wake Forest's Emily Taggart then capitalized on a Virginia Tech turnover and made the score 2-0 Deacons. The goal came at the 31:16 mark in the match.

    The Hokies would pull to within one goal before halftime when freshman Linda Bruce (Mechanicsville, Va.) took a pass from Jessica Myers (Richmond, Va.) and knocked it past Wake Forest goaltender Tracy Chao. The goal came at the 42:07 mark in the match.

    The match would remain locked at 2-1well into the second half. The Deacons took a 3-1 advantage in the 74th minute of play when Lindsey Griffin scored on a penalty kick.

    Wake Forest went on to add two more goals in the closing minutes of the match. Taggart scored her second goal of the day when she took a pass from Melissa Murray-Hobbs and chipped in a shot from 18 yards out. The last goal of the day came at the 85:17 mark in the match. Griffin's second goal of the day made the final score 5-1 when she scored on a breakaway.

    The loss leaves Virginia Tech with a 3-7 record. The Hokies will be back in action Friday when they play host to Old Dominion.
