Women's Soccer Falls to Villanova
Hokies fall to physical Wildcat squad

The Virginia Tech women's soccer team fell to the Villanova Wildcats Monday afternoon in Blacksburg, 2-0.

The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead at the 36:06 mark when Laura Johnson collected a loose ball and knocked it past sophomore Katie Hancock (Stockton, Md.) There was no assist on the goal. Villanova would take a 2-0 lead when Erica Stewart took a nice pass from Kristin Dunst and beat Hancock with a shot into the corner. Dunst and Patricia Misciagna were credited with assists.

The Wildcats were whistled for a total of 22 fouls in the contest, while the Hokies committed nine. Hancock played the entire match in goal for Tech, collecting five saves and allowing two goals. Janel Schillig also played the whole match between the pipes for Villanova. She finished the match with three saves on eight Hokie shots and was credited with the shutout.

The loss drops Tech to 2-2-1 on the season and improves the Wildcats' record to 4-0-1. The Hokies are back in action Thursday when they host intrastate rival, James Madison. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m.
