    No. 7 Notre Dame Overwhelms Tech
    Women's soccer drops its season opener to top-ranked opponent

    NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Virginia Tech women's soccer team dropped its season opener, 5-0, to No. 7-ranked Notre Dame on Sunday, Sept. 1. Notre Dame displayed a balanced scoring attack as five different players scored for the Irish.

    The Fighting Irish outshot Tech 25-10 and exploded for four second half goals en route to a 5-0 shutout. Notre Dame juniors Randi Scheller (Kutztown, Pa.) and Amanda Guertin (Grapevine, Texas) led the Irish as both had a goal and an assist in the contest.

    For Tech, sophomore goalkeeper Natasha Dirda (McKees Rocks, Pa.) made nine saves in her first collegiate game.

    The Hokies will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 4, when they travel to William & Mary for a non-conference match. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
