Women's Soccer Falls to Connecticut
Hokies Fall in BIG EAST division debut

The Virginia Tech Hokies women's soccer team fell to the Connecticut Huskies Sunday afternoon, 2-0. The Huskies scored two first-half goals to lead them to victory.

The Huskies started fast and scored at the 10:00 mark in the match. Jessica Gjertsen took a pass from Kristen Graczyk and slipped it past the Tech goalkeeper. The assist on the goal was credited to Graczyk.

Connecticut would strengthen its lead before halftime. Graczyk scored when she collected an errant ball in the box and headed it in. There was no assist on the play and the goal came at the 30:35 mark.

Katie Hancock (Stockton, Md.) played the entire match in goal for the Hokies, producing four saves on 13 Huskie shots. Connecticut played two keepers, each playing one half apiece. Erin Rice collected two saves in the first-half and Shanna Caldwell grabbed four second-half saves.

The loss drops Tech to 2-3-2 overall and 0-1 in the Northeast divison of the BIG EAST. The Huskies improve their record to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the divison. The Hokies are back in action Thursday when they host William & Mary at 2 p.m.
