Hawks Top Virginia Tech, 2-0, in Women's Soccer
St. Joseph's Stops Two-Game Hokie Win Streak

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- St. Joseph's defeated the Virginia Tech women's soccer team, 2-0, Friday night in Philadelphia, Pa. Both Hawk goals came from senior Mindy Spellman.

St. Joseph's allowed only five first-half shots from the Hokies and played solid defense throughout the match. Spellman put the first goal on the scoreboard at the 41-minute mark. Kim Miller was credited with the assist on the play.

The match remained 1-0 Hawks until there was 15 minutes remaining in the match. Spellman netted her second goal of the night when she scored on a breakaway.

The shutout by Hawk's goalkeeper, Colleen Corcoran, was the 16th of her career. Tech goalkeeper, Shannon Janko, collected nine saves in the match.

Tech totaled 10 shots, one corner and 19 fouls in the match. St. Joseph's tallied 14 shots, no corners and 24 fouls in the contest.

The loss leaves the Hokies at 5-8 on the season. They will be back in action Sunday when they take on the Temple Owls in Philadelphia, Pa.
