BLACKSBURG, Va. - The BIG EAST Conference awarded Virginia Tech freshman Kjersti Trout (Stafford, Va.) as the women's soccer conference Rookie of the Week for her efforts last week. Tech improved to 2-6-1 on the year with back-to-back shutouts against Big South rival Liberty and Pittsburgh in a cross-divisional BIG EAST match.

The Hokies snapped a nine-game winless streak Tuesday, Sept. 24, with a convincing 5-0 victory over Liberty behind Trout's record-setting four-goal effort. Trout became the first women's soccer player in the program's nine-year history to score four goals and record eight points in a single match.

Trout and the Hokies capped an undefeated week on Sunday with a 2-0 shutout at Pittsburgh.

With her break-through performance against the Lady Flames, Trout now leads the Hokies with 11 points (five goals, one assist). She also received Virginia Tech Athlete of the Week honors.

Tech will return to action on Friday afternoon when they travel to North Carolina for a non-conference match against Davidson. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
