BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's soccer team came close in its BIG EAST conference debut, but a goal by Seton Hall's Frauke Dittel in the second overtime foiled Tech's successful debut, giving the Pirates a 3-2 win.

The Hokies jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the game when senior Joy Nsubuga (Hollysprings, Va.) stole the goal kick and beat the Pirates' keeper. There was no assist on the play and the goal came at the 1:59 mark in the match.

Tech increased its lead to 2-0 when junior Linda Bruce (Mechanicsville, Va.) scored off senior Kimberly Wyckoff's (Springfield, Va.) pass. That goal came at the 61:44 mark.

Seton Hall answered back by scoring three straight goals. The first came at the 80:04 mark when Tina Huellen scored off a Kei Kurimoto pass. The Pirates went on to tie the game at the 88:50 mark when Carley Piagentini chipped in a shot off a deflection.

The game-winning goal scored by Dittel came after a scramble in front of the Hokies' net after a Hall corner. Dittel collected the ball and knocked it past Tech goalkeeper Katie Hancock (Stockton, Md.) The goal came at the 106:17 mark.

The loss drops the Hokies to 0-1-1 on the year and 0-1 in BIG EAST play. Seton Hall improves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
