September 6, 2004

Greensboro, N.C. - Virginia Tech freshman Ashley Stinson was named ACC Player of the Week after posting five goals in two games as the Hokies defeated VMI and Maryland last week.

In Tuesday's contest against VMI, Stinson recorded the first hat trick of her career en route to a 9-0 Tech victory. The Acworth, Ga., native scored her first goal 1:53 into the match. She tallied her second goal at the 19:02 mark for a 2-0 lead and struck again 34:06 into the game for her third and final score of the evening. The Hokies cruised to a 9-0 win.

Against Maryland on Friday, Tech's first-ever ACC game in any sport, Stinson netted the only two goals of the game. She opened the scoring 20 minutes into the game after receiving a pass from fellow freshman Ashley Kinser (Johnson City, Tenn). The two connected again less than two minutes later to put the Terrapins away for good.

Stinson also received Virginia Tech's Athlete of the Week award Monday. The honor is given to the athlete who has the best performance during the previous week.
