Women's Soccer Tops Temple 2-1
Russel Involved In Both Hokie Goals

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Virginia Tech women's soccer team defeated the Temple Owls Sunday by a score of 2-1.

Freshman Jessica Russel (Arlington, Va.) helped lead the Hokies to its sixth victory of the season with an assist and a goal in the win. Russel helped give the Hokies a 1-0 advantage when she assisted Kathy Holdsworth (Virginia Beach, Va.) who scored at the 25:37 mark in the match.

Seven minutes later Russell struck again, scoring what turned out to be the game-winning goal. There was no assist on the play.

Just five minutes into the second period, the Owls cut the Hokie lead to one goal. Temple forward Brenda Gore beat Tech's goalkeeper Katie Hancock (Stockton, Md.) to pull the Owls within one goal. No assist was given on the play. Gore's goal would conclude the scoring for the day.

Both Temple goalkeeper Courtney Woytowicz and Tech's Hancock made five saves on the day.

With the win the Hokies improve their record to 6-8 on the season. Tech will be back in action Oct. 15 when they host Howard.
