    October 1, 2001

The BIG EAST announced Monday that Virginia Tech senior Colin Kibler (Virginia Beach, Va.) and sophomore Katie Hancock (Stockton, Md.) each were awarded the conference's pick for Goalkeeper of the Week. Kibler shares this honor with Brian O'Hagan of Georgetown and Hancock won the award outright.

Kibler turned in strong performances last week as the team went 2-0. In a 2-0 BIG EAST shutout over Syracuse, he stopped six shots including a penalty kick. The shutout was Kibler's fourth of the year and the team's fifth overall. In the previous match against Georgia Southern, Kibler made four saves in the 2-1 win. Kibler has a total of 37 saves this year and a .51 goal against average.

Hancock was instrumental in the Hokies' 1-0 win over No. 22 William & Mary. She collected eight saves on 14 Tribe shots and did not allow a goal in the victory. Hancock also played strong in a cross-divisional conference match against Rutgers. She produced nine more saves in the 1-0 loss. Hancock now has a total of 58 saves on the year and a 1.46 GAA.
