Johnson Named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for Women's Soccer
Hot weekend leads to award
October 22, 2001 The BIG EAST announced Monday that Virginia Tech freshman Ryan Johnson (Eaglesville, Pa.) has been named the conference's rookie of the week for women's soccer. Johnson helped the Hokies to a 1-1-1 week which included a 4-0 win over St. John's and a 1-1 tie with the Miami Hurricanes. Friday she scored the lone Tech goal in the Hokies' 1-1 draw against the Hurricanes. Johnson followed up that performance with a goal and an assist in the Tech's 4-0 defeat of the St. John's Red Storm on Sunday. Johnson now has a total of three goals on the year and has added one assist to bring her point total to seven on the year. She is currently tied for third on the team in total points scored and is tied for second in goals scored. Johnson and the rest of the women's soccer team are back in action Thursday when they travel to Washington, D.C., to take on Howard. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m.
