Women's Soccer Falls to Dayton
Tech drops to .500 on the year with the loss

DAYTON, Ohio - The Virginia Tech women's soccer team fell to the Dayton Flyers, 3-0 Friday night.

The Flyers got the scoring started early in the match when Melissa Buck chipped a shot that was misplayed by Tech goalkeeper Katie Hancock (Stockton, Md.) The goal was unassisted and came at the 3:20 mark in the match.

The defense for both teams would clamp down after the early goal. Dayton broke through the Hokie defense late in the second half and added to their lead. Missy Gregg blasted a shot from 20 yards out that deflected off a Tech player and founds its home in the back of the goal. Lindsey Whitehead was credited with the assist on the goal that came at the 64:55 mark in the match.

The Flyers would add an insurance goal just under 10-minutes later. Dayton made the final score 3-0 when Megan McKnight scored on a deep shot. The goal was unassisted and came at the 75:37 mark.

Hancock played the entire match in goal for the Hokies. Hancock collected seven saves on 16 Flyer shots and allowed three goals. Dayton's goalkeeper, Stephanie Weisenfeld also played all 90-minutes in goal and she collected seven saves and gave up zero goals.

The loss drops the Hokies to 9-9 on the year and improves Dayton's record to 14-4. Tech will be back in action Sunday when they take on Xavier in their season finale.
