Women's Soccer Tops Fordham, 3-1

BRONX, N.Y. -- Kim Wyckoff (Springfield, Va.) netted the winning goal as the Virginia Tech women's soccer team defeated Fordham University, 3-1, Sunday.

Carmen Chestnut (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.), assisted by Victoria Sarfo-Kantanka (Glen Allen, Va.), scored the opening goal of the mat ch for the Hokies at the 10:07 mark.

Fordham would answer with a goal from Corinne Jankowski at the 50:52 mark.

Tech returned with two consecutive goals, including Wyckoff's gamewinner off an assist by Emily Bielefeld (Columbia, Md.), at the 55:51 mark. Joy Nsubuga (Hollysprings, N.C.) rounded out Tech's scoring with a goal off an assist from Wendy Kotwas (Conesus, N.Y.) at the 63:31 mark.

Tech totaled 12 shots, four corner kicks, four saves and nine fouls. Fordham tallied six shots, 13 corner kicks, six saves and four fouls.

With the win, the Hokies improve to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the Atlantic 10. Tech will return to action October 6 when it faces N.C. State at Tech Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
