Stinson Named Finalist for National Freshman of the Year

    BLACKSBURG, Va. - Ashley Stinson was one of 12 finalists selected for the Soccer Buzz Freshman of the Year award Wednesday afternoon.

    Stinson, a forward from Acworth, Ga., helped guide the Hokies to a school-record 11 wins and their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Championships.

    She led the team in goals (17), points (39), shots (75), shots on goal (42) and game-winning goals (5). Stinson was second on the team in assists, with five. During the year, she set school-records for goals in a season, points in a season, shots in a season and consecutive games with at least one point (8).

    Earlier in the season, Stinson was named ACC Player of the week (Sept. 6). In addition, she was on the Soccer Buzz National Elite Team of the Week (Sept. 8) and named ACC Freshman of the Year (Nov. 1).
