Tech falls at No. 8 Wake Forest 4-0
Mallory Soldner makes six saves in goal
September 25, 2005 Winston-Salem, N.C. - Four different Demon Deacons scored goals Sunday, as No. 8 Wake Forest downed visiting Virginia Tech, 4-0 in an Atlantic Coast Conference match at Spry Stadium. The Deacons took an early lead when Jayme Leigh Cargnoni collected a loose ball inside the box and beat the keeper with a shot that was deflected at 9:03. Tech tried for the equalizer late in the first half, as Ashley Kinser (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Mary Elizabeth Newton (Adairsville, Ga.) put shots on net in a series. However, both shots were stopped by Wake Forest goalkeeper Kaitlyn Doe. Doe and Heather Currie combined to make six saves. Wake Forest put a second goal on the board midway through the second half. The Deacons added two more goals in the final 25 minutes of play. Junior Mallory Soldner (Lanesville, Ind.) made six saves for Tech. Freshman Laurie Beth Puglisi (Arlington, Va.) paced the Hokies offense with four shots, including two on net. The Hokies (4-5-1 Overall, 0-2 ACC) will host the University of Miami, Thursday at 7:00 p.m., at the Virginia Tech Soccer Stadium.
