Keselica's big night powers Virginia
October 13, 2005 BLACKSBURG, Va. - Senior Noelle Keselica scored two goals and added a pair of assists Thursday, as the University of Virginia downed Virginia Tech, 4-0 in an Atlantic Coast Conference women's soccer match at the Tech Soccer Stadium. The loss drops the Hokies to 5-9-1 overall and 1-6 in the ACC. Keselica got her career night started early. The fourth-year forward scored a goal off a header just 1:49 into the first half. Less than three minutes later, freshman Kelly Quinn gave the 'Hoos a 2-0 lead with her fifth goal of the season on a pass from Keselica. Falling behind early, Kelly Cagle's crew fought back. Freshman Laurie Beth Puglisi (Arlington, Va.), who took all three of the Hokies' shots, had two late in the first half off a pair of Tech corner kicks. In the second half, Cagle's midfield unit of seniors Molly McCall (Falls Church, Va.) and Kjersti Trout (Stafford, Va.) as well as sophomore Ashley Kinser (Johnson City, Tenn.) and freshman Mauri Liberati (Warwick, Md.) kept the Cavaliers' chances to a minimum. During the second half, Cagle was also able to get a look at some of her younger players, including freshmen Ashley Seldon (Midlothian, Va.) and Mallory Jones (Wake Forest, N.C.), who participated in their first ACC contest. The Hokies will play host to No. 3 North Carolina on Sunday at 1 p.m. Prior to the match, the Tech senior class of Andrea Angelos (Thornton, Pa.), McCall, Shannon Poach (Chesapeake, Va.), Ashley Stoutland (Avondale, Pa.), and Trout will all be honored with a brief ceremony on the field.
