October 24, 2005

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Virginia Tech junior goalkeeper Mallory Soldner (Lanesville, Ind.) has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Co-Player of the Week by the conference office.

The 5-foot-11 keeper shares this week's award with Clemson forward Courtney Foster.

Soldner, who has started all but one game for the Hokies this season, earned a pair of shutouts last week, blanking Maryland and No. 11 Boston College on the road as the Hokies played to consecutive scoreless draws. With her two shutouts, she moved into first-place all-time in school history in career shutouts with 16.5.

The Hokies' netminder was also named the Nextel Athlete of the Week by the Virginia Tech athletic department on Monday.

This marks the first time a Virginia Tech player has won the conference player of the week award since Ashley Stinson (Acworth, Ga.) was given the distinction on Sept. 6, 2004.

The Hokies (5-10-3) will wrap up their 2005 season with a non-conference match at Radford on Wednesday.
