Wake Forest shuts out James Madison 5-0 at Virginia Tech Tournament
Remy scores two as Morse and Doe combine for the shutout
September 10, 2006 BLACKSBURG, Va. - Wake Forest notched its second shut out of the weekend when it defeated James Madison, 5-0, Sunday at the Virginia Tech Tournament in Blacksburg, Va. Allie Sadow had the game winning goal, while Elizabeth Remy recorded two goals during the win. Only five and a half minutes into the game, Wake Forest's Sadow had the game-winning goal. Jayme Liegh Cargnoni dribbled down the field, defeating her defender. Cargnoni crossed the ball to the far side of the goal for Sadow to knock it behind the Dukes' Missy Reimert. Less than ten minutes later, it was Amy Smerdzinski that found the back of the net for Wake Forest, converting a long assist from Caitlin Farrell. James Madison came down the field, taking a wide shot on net. At the 20:02 mark, the Demon Deacons were on the board again with an unassisted goal from Remy. That would prove to be the final goal of the half. Wake and JMU walked off the field with the Demon Deacons leading in shots, 8-3, and even in corners with two apiece. It was 19 minutes into the second half that the Demon Deacon's Kaley Fountain made if four for Wake Forest. Farrell notched another assist, while Remy earned another two points for the Demon Deacon's fifth and final goal of the match at 76:47. The Demon Deacons had the edge in shots (13-4), while JMU totaled five corners, over Wake's four. Wake improved to 5-1-0 on the season, while JMU fell to 2-4-0.
