Puglisi notches two goals in Tech's win over Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Laurie Beth Puglisi recorded two goals in Tech's 2-1 win over Miami, Thursday. The Hokies improve to 5-4-1 on the season and 1-2-0 in the conference.

The Hokies had the first shot of the match when Robin Chidester took a header that was saved by the 'Canes' goalkeeper, Lauren McAdam. Tech had three more shots before Puglisi took a shot from the top of the box in the 38th minute and put the Hokies up 1-0.

Miami had the equalizer within three minutes, when Bryn Heinicke took a free shot and launched it into the Hokies far post. Tech finished the first half with seven shots to Miami's six.

In the first minute of the second half, the Hokies pulled ahead and never looked back. Off of Julian Johnson's throw-in, Puglisi headed the ball in for her second goal of the match. It is the fifth time the Johnson has assisted on a goal by Puglisi, and the sixth time a goal has been scored from one of Johnson's throw-ins. Johnson now has ten assists on the season, while Puglisi has six goals.

Tech edged out the 'Canes 12-11 in shots and in saves 5-4, including two team saves. Puglisi had the most shots on the team with five, while Emily Jukich was two shots behind her.

The Hokies next travel to Florida State to take on the Seminoles Sunday at 1 p.m.
