BLACKSBURG, Va. - Emily Jukich, Gina Om and Laurie Beth Puglisi were named to the UNC Greensboro Women's Soccer Classic All-Tournament team following Virginia Tech's two wins this weekend. The Hokies defeated host UNC Greensboro, 1-0, as well as High Point, 3-2.
Jukich (Fr., Clifton, Va.) tallied two goals in Tech's win over High Point, Sunday. Converting a feed from Heather Hallberg (Jr., Richmond, Va.) in the eighth minute of play, Jukich put the Hokies on the board, 1-0. At the 67:06 mark, the freshman broke the 2-2 tie between the Hokies and the Panthers for the win.
Om (Jr., Fairfax, Va.) knocked in the only goal during the Hokies win over host school, UNC Greensboro, Friday. The game was scoreless until 60:18 when Puglisi (So., Arlington, Va.) and Julian Johnson (Fr., Norfolk, Va.) gave a 1-2 set-up for Om. The score was Om's fourth of the season and her second game-winner.
Besides the assist to Om's gamewinner, Puglisi notched a goal of her own against High Point. The junior scored off a long throw-in from Johnson in the 25th minute. She tallied the most shots (4) during the game for the Hokies.
Tech hosts Wake Forest, James Madison and Liberty this weekend in its own Virginia Tech Tournament. The games kick-off Friday at 5 p.m., with Wake Forest vs. Liberty. The Hokies play James Madison in a game immediately following.
