BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech women’s soccer forward Emily Jukich (Clifton, Va.) was selected to the 2008 All-ACC Second Team as announced by the league on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Jukich becomes the second Hokie to earn second team honors in the last two seasons. Sophomore Marika Gray became the first Tech player to earn All-ACC accolades last season after leading the team in both goals and assists.
Tech’s junior forward has had a breakout year for the Hokies, leading the team with 14 goals and 29 points. Jukich has had two goal-scoring streaks of at least four matches this season and is currently tied with Florida State’s Sanna Tanolen for second in the conference in goals scored.
In addition, her 14 scores are the second highest single-season total in program history, behind only Ashley Stinson’s 17 goals in 2004. Jukich is also just the third Hokie to ever break the double-digit goal mark in a single season and is now tied with Emily Barnhart (2000-2003) for first in the Tech record book with 24 career goals.
The Clifton Va., native’s success has extended beyond the field, as Jukich picked up CoSIDA Acadmic All-District III honors recently as well.
Jukich and the seventh-seeded Hokies travel to Cary, N.C. to compete in the ACC Tournament for the second time in the last five seasons. Tech faces second-seeded Florida State on Wednesday, Nov. 5 in the third match of the day. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
