Carden named to TopDrawerSoccer Women's College Team of the Week
Tech's keeper earns first-career national weekly honor.
October 5, 2009

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Tech’s goalkeeper, Kristin Carden, has been named to the TopDrawerSoccer Women’s College Team of the Week as announced Monday after helping the Hokies to two top-25 victories and making a career-best 15 total saves through the week of play.

Carden tallied five saves as the Hokies defeated in-state rival Virginia 2-1, earning the program's first win in Charlottesville, Va., and just its second all-time defeat of the Cavaliers. Carden came up big for her team, saving a penalty kick in the 12th minute of play.

In Tech’s most recent defeat of the top-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels, Carden made a season-best 10 saves in the Hokies’ first win over the Tar Heels and a No. 1-ranked team. Her most important save of the game came in the 67th minute as she denied a shot from Carolina’s Casey Nogueira, after a scramble, right on the goal line. Carden also denied all three Tar Heel shots in the final 10 minutes of the match.

The Virginia Beach, Va., native has tallied two shutouts on the season, both in ACC play, and collected 25 saves, while boasting a perfect 5-0-0 record thus far.

The complete story and team list can be found at www.topdrawersoccer.com.

Carden and the Hokies, ranked 21st in the nation by TopDrawerSoccer, will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 11, to take on Maryland in College Park, Md., at 5 p.m.
