BLACKSBURG, Va. – Senior forward Julian Johnson and sophomore goalkeeper Kristin Carden were both named College Soccer 360 Primetime Performers of the Week as announced by the website on Tuesday. Carden was also named the NSCAA National Player of the Week announced onWednesday. This is the first national honor for Johnson and the fifth of the week and career for Carden.
Johnson scored the game-winning goal against then-No.18 Virginia as the Hokies earned their first win in Charlottesville, and just their second-ever defeat of the Cavaliers. The Norfolk, Va., native was also a big part of the Hokies’ win over then-No. 1 North Carolina as she assisted the only goal of the game, to give Tech the 1-0 victory. Johnson has tallied five assists on the season, scored three goals and notched two game-winners.
Carden has earned numerous weekly honors this week as she has already been named to the TopDrawerSoccer and Soccer America Teams of the Week while also being named the ACC Player of the. The Virginia Beach, Va., native was instrumental in the two latest Hokie victories over then-No. 18 Virginia and then-No. 1 North Carolina. Carden played the full 90 minutes in net in both games and made 15 saves in the week, including a 12th-minute penalty kick against Virginia and a 67th-minute blast that was stopped right on the goal line from Carolina.
The Hokies will return to action after a week of rest to take on the Maryland Terrapins in College Park on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 5 p.m.
